I seriously doubt the two issues are related unless the throttle cable and the brake peddle are somehow rubbing under the dash.

Nope, Jeep did not come out with the Rubicon till the 2003 model lineup. People put Rubicon stickers on the hood and try to sell them as a Rubicon.

It was probably built in 2002 after July, after July it would be considered a 2003, but in the same note, it should come back on the VIN as a 2003. I don’t know what the mix up is here, but someone screwed up on the paperwork.
The best advice I could give is to make some phone calls to Jeep, start with your local dealership, and ask them for help in getting that straightened out.

I don’t know the technical term either, but your best bet might be to remove the broken piece, take it to a junkyard and say, “I need one of these for a 98 Wrangler.” If it is part of the seat, not the Jeep, you may have to buy the whole seat. You might consider ebay or junkyard for that too.

you will be replacing that 2.5 very soon, those engine dont last much past the mileage your stating, also for that price it should be a I6 4.0 engine.

I’d just go to the dealer and ask for a replacement seat latch

Then, when he tells you that they don’t sell it separately, and you’ll need to buy a whole seat, you can check Ebay or Craigslist for a used wrangler back seat. You can usually find them.

You can expect poor fuel mileage, what with the 4WD and auto trans. As with any vehicle you are thinking of buying, you need to have a mechanic do complete inspections of all systems to see what needs repairs now, and in the near future; not having the inspections is a big gamble

I would say it’s a good deal if you like it. Drive it for a few years. Seems like a good car.
