I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler 6 cylander with 150,000 miles.
The jeep has problems starting. It will turn over, but as it turns over power is lost on the dash (brakes, engine, and seatbelt lights) and will not start. The check engine light only is present half the time the key is turned on. Here is whats confusing, when the check engine light comes on, it will start (but will occasionally skip and sounds as if its a timing problem).
But when the light does not appear on the dash, it just cranks over. Its as if when your first turn it on, it doesnt do the standerded relay (lights turn on, hear fuel pump), and my dad has replaced many things on it. The 02 sensor, distributer, ect. When driving down the road, if it is running at low rpm’s it will be sputtery (like it misses). Not to the extent where its not drivable, but every 10-15 sec there will be a lapse in acceleration. We did the check engine light codes and we got : 12-33-(55)
We checked the codes and dismissed 33 (something to do with a A/C circuite, but was not important) and 12 was not much help either. I need some help on what the problem might be. My father has exhausted large amounts of time through out his ownership doing check up and up keeps reguraly (fixes spots on frame, rubber coating on bottom, new fuel lines, distributer, Co2 sensor, and several others i cant remember, so this cant be a matter of neglegance. He is thinking it may have to due with computer or some temperature guage.
What could be the problem? Here are some pictures to help get a better understanding:
